Spain faces Ireland in International friendly
This eleventh June, all attention will be directed at the Yankee stadium, USA, where the FIFA world cup champions and still the holders of the 2012 EURO cup, Spain, who have not lost a game since 2011 when they lost to England in a friendly faces Ireland in a friendly fixture which will most certainly act as a test ahead of their confederations cup campaign which starts with their match against Uruguay on June 16. The confident Spain have nothing to worry about after thrashing Haiti later last Saturday with two goals against one which shows their winning streak is not about to end any time soon.
Spain seems to have lots of talent in the team, with the likes of Juan Mata and Carzola showing their prowess against Haiti. Similarly the two goals from Cesc Fabregas and Carzola give Vicente Del Bosque much confidence in his team. His only worry might be who to start up between Fernado Torres and teammate Roberto Soldado who matches equally in his bid to run for the starting position.
For the Republic of Ireland, things might not be too smooth for the Giovanni Trapattoni’s boys since fate has seen them undergo participation in four fixtures within two weeks. They saw a draw against England, a win against Georgia and an amazing 3-0 victory over Faroe in their UEFA world cup qualifier. This match saw Robbie Keane emerge man of the match as he scored all three goals marking a hat trick.
However if history decides to repeat itself, Ireland will be in a compromised situation since they lost 4-0 the last time the two teams met; and that was in the group stages of the EURO 2012. This followed a previous draw during the 2002 world cup when the two teams last met in a major match. The two teams have clashed twenty five times with Spain winning fourteen of them while Ireland only winning four; the rest are draws.
