The stage is all set for the clash between Alan Pardew sides and the big spender: Manuel Pellegrini battle it out on Monday 19. Manchester city will be hosting Newcastle.
Newcastle had a tough time last season, even flirting with relegation towards the end of the campaign. Newcastle has scored just eight goals in their last 13 Premier League games against Man City, conceding 30. Alan Pardew side has never won a Barclays Premier League game at the Etihad Stadium. Amongst the squad likely to face City include Loic Remy from QPR, Yohan Cabaye who is reportedly a target for a number of leading clubs and Papiss Cisse who can be expected to lead their attack.
Manchester City kicks off their Premier League season at home to Newcastle United in a Monday night match that will ensure all eyes are fixed firmly on how the Manuel Pellegrini era starts. City will open their season on a high note as they start their bid to regain the Premier League title from Manchester United. City finished last season without a trophy, after losing the FA Cup Final to Wigan. They also failed to emerge from the Champions’ League group stage and although they finished runners up to United domestically, they came up 11 points shy of their rivals. City now under new management have so far recruited Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo and Steven Jovetic. They will however lack the servies of Carlos Tevez who has moved on to Juventus, Maicon, Santa Cruz and Kolo Toure . Manchester City have won 11 and lost none of their last 13 Premier League games against Newcastle, including a current run of seven successive victories.
At this stage of the season Newcastle might just offer more of a threat to City this time around.
