Belgium will play against Serbia in the UEFA Group A match for 2014 FIFA world cup qualification at King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels on 7th June. Belgium is currently one of the impressive teams in Europe with its young talents. Belgium leads group A on goal difference as they have same points as Croatia with 16 points, as they chase a ticket to brazil after missing out on previous two world cups. Serbia needs to win this match to keep some hope for a playoff spot. Belgium has conceded only one goal in this campaign. Belgium has won its last four matches including double-header world cup qualifying group matches against Macedonia. Serbia defeated Scotland in its last match by 2-0, but they lost against Croatia by same margin in the preceding match.
Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, and Everton’s Marouane Fellaini make a powerful attacking midfield. They are all goal threats on their own. Strikers Benteke and Lukaku had stellar season in England for their clubs. Belgium has a formidable defence with captain Vincent Company, Bayern Munich’s Van Buyten, Tottenham’s Vertonghen and Arsenal’s Vermaelen. Keeper Courtois who had another stellar season with Athletico Madrid on loan will be looking for a clean sheet.
Captain Ivanovic will be looking forward to continue his heroics after helping Chelsea to win Europa league. Despite the presence of the likes of Manchester City’s Kolarov, Borussia Dortmund’s Subotic in defence they conceded 7 goals in the campaign. They have a tough task of containing a very attacking Belgium team. Serbian midfielders Kuzmanovic, Petrovic and Tadic need to create goals as they have an inexperienced frontline. Belgium has won the last two matches against Serbia and they will be looking to keep their winning run to put pressure on Croatia. With its abundant attacking flair and tight defence, Belgium is a contender to win this match and the group.
